Leadership Coach

Introduction

Welcome new and established Executive Directors (and other leaders) to the Glaster & Associates Leadership Coaching program.  Leadership Coaching is a tool used to equip you with knowledge and ideas regarding specific areas of expertise to help you achieve effectiveness in your commitment as a leader of your organization (or group). Leadership Coaching helps individuals bring forth the power and knowledge that’s already inside and around them as a leader searching for answers to specific and general leadership issues.

The on-line material is presented in “bullet form” to convey the specific points of data in each coaching session.  Each point is self-explanatory as you read the study material associated with the topics, however additional explanation can be provided via email questions.  The bullet points in each segment of this program are designed to list some important focus areas for each subject; but in order to get the full essence of the material presented, it’s crucial to read and/or review the books and articles from which it is extracted.  It is also strongly suggested that clients spend time reflecting and filling out each “Preparation for Next Session” form to express ideas and “inner-voice” conversations experienced during and after each coaching session.

There is a plethora of accumulated knowledge available regarding leadership advice.  The selected material in this program represents a compilation of certain books and experiences that have been most beneficial to me and hopefully will produce for you a well-balanced set of suggestive literature to enhance your position and career as a leader.

Clients of Glaster & Associates will be able to contact Jacqueline Glaster, the Leadership Coach throughout the coaching program to ask questions regarding the material and/or to set up possible on-site and phone consultations for more personalized training and feedback regarding particular executive director, organizational and group issues.  Consultation appointments, questions and comments can be requested via email to the Leadership Coach according to each contractual agreement and time-slot availability.

My Coaching Philosophy:

While I adapt my coaching approach to the needs of each client, my fundamental philosophy expressed in this overview provides the framework in which I work with everyone seeking leadership support and counsel.

Coaching is defined as the process of equipping people with the tools, knowledge and opportunities they need to achieve effectiveness in their commitment to themselves, their organization and their work as leaders.  Coaching is an effective tool in leadership development. It’s seen as part of the leadership continuum, i.e., manager to leader to coach.  Great leaders don’t create followers; they create (coach) better leaders.

Two of my favorite quotes from the volumes of leadership literature are:

“Leaders don’t create plans; they don’t solve day to day problems; they don’t even organize people (necessarily).  What leaders do is prepare organizations (and individuals) for change and help them cope as they struggle through it.” (Harvard Business Review, 2001)

“Becoming a leader is synonymous with becoming your own developing self.  It’s that simple…and it’s that difficult.” (W.Bennis).

Please understand that most of the tasks involved in the areas listed in the above Harvard Business Review quote are essential for leaders (depending on the size of their organization and roles of their various employees), but they fall under the category of management. Management skills are important; however, it’s equally important to grasp the difference between leadership and management and when they need to be utilized in executive positions and in a coaching relationship.

While there may be occasion for me to step into a more traditional managerial role as a Leadership coach, I work primarily in a leadership/coaching capacity with clients. I help leaders work (sometimes “struggle”) through the process of discovering their inner gifts and provide training resources for areas where they may show deficiencies.

I approach coaching from the perspective that when one is truly comfortable with being (or becoming) him/herself and has an understanding of where he/she and the organization they are leading desire to go, that individual’s ability to have a deeply satisfying personal and work life and lead others with increased resourcefulness, resiliency, courage and effectiveness is greatly enhanced.   As a partner to my clients, I help hold the beacon of light for their genius and dreams, while supporting their journey and that of the organization they are in charge of leading.

My Strengths as a Coach:

My greatest strength is what I bring to the coaching relationship as a person who has been committed to my own inner development and professional excellence for over 30 years.  I have personally assessed and applied all the material I submit to you in my coaching sessions.  So, I know first hand of the significance and power in the information conveyed.  My particular strengths include:
